Cultivating Safety in Healing and Wellness Spaces
As we prepared for rainbow weekend in our city of Kent OH, we wanted to take a moment of reflection, as our community comes together to celebrate everyone. I want to highlight that Zenning is a truly trauma-informed, affirming and safe space.
Not just because these are buzz words or "trendy," but because we want to help save lives. From gender neutral bathrooms to acknowledging preferred pronouns, we stand by our mission.
When new clients and students register a login profile with Zenning, though not required, people are invited (i.e., not required) to include preferred pronouns. We do this to cultivate safety and leverage inclusion, and because of this we are able to help people along their healing journey.
However, some guests never return for this same reason… and we are okay with that.
On our mission to create safety to promote healing, we would not want judgement and "othering" into the space. This is the opposite of trauma-sensitive.
As the CEO and Co-Founder of Zenning, I’m deeply committed to creating wellness spaces that are welcoming, equitable, and inclusive for all. It’s my privilege to use my role to make a positive impact, ensuring that everyone feels seen, supported, and valued on their wellness journey.
If you are still unsure about the imortance of language and preferred pronouns, I will list some resources to help you.
According to the American Journal of Public Health, “pronouns” are a public health issue: https://ajph.aphapublications.org/doi/full/10.2105/AJPH.2021.306678.
By increasing our cultural competencies of the LGBTQIA+ communities, we are able to help to reduce stigmatization, improve communication aqnd care, and cultivate safety within our spaces and studios. May all living beings be peaceful, healthy, and supported.
